Our Strategic Priorities

Exposure to I&E through modules and courses
Motivate students to engage in I&E
Educate students about I&E spaces

should be redefined as I&EM (Innovation and Entrepreneurial Mindset).

Anyone can innovate but not everyone is an entrepreneur. EM is independent from starting businesses. It is more focused on attitudes and skills such as curiosity, making connections, and creating value (aside from physical) like financial or social, which can be applied in everything we do.

* This idea of redefining I&EM is a suggestion from our meeting with Prof. Leslie Dodson & Prof. Curtis Abel

Some students may think they are not welcomed in the Entrepreneurship field because it seems too exclusive. Therefore, we need to emphasize the difference between the concepts of I&EM and I&E to make it more inviting introduction to the field. This way we can have a greater reach across campus.

I&E

Redefining I&E as I&EM

My freshman year of college was tumultuous and stress-inducing but that was strongly counteracted by the guidance and assurance of my CA (Community Advisor), a senior at the time, who I regarded as an honorable role model. His advice and conversations always reassured me infinitely more than any assembly or group email the university administration arranged. In merely a few weeks of the first semester he gave me tips and pointers that I would employ for my subsequent years. For example, he told me which classes to take, which classes to avoid, and even how to focus more in class to optimize success. Given that we shared the same major, we had many similar interests so his career path and academic success seemed like a goal worthy of striving for. We were both into linked mechanisms, renewable energy, and soccer. This experience led me to believe that student leaders from freshman year can strongly contribute to general student success, as the most motivating figures are people of the same age group. This is strongly applicable to the I&E priorities we have defined, as it should generate significantly more interest, participation, awareness, and motivation.

Insight Program & Student Leaders

Encouraging I&E Mindset:

- “Entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. Takes investment of time and faith.” In the long run, the earlier you get involved, the better.

- “Think big, start small, work fast and do something every day that advances your objectives.”

- I&E is open to anyone. You’ll never find a more diverse array of students than the groups of freshmen that Insight groups are composed of. All disciplines are included. Being inclusive is vital to successful entrepreneurship.

* Some points from our meeting with Ms Jessica Karner, Insight director.
